Hornet Pest Control

Care is Necessary in Handling Hornet Pest Control
Hornets are dangerous pests; hundreds of people die each year as a result of allergic reactions to their venom. More unpredictable than bees, hornets can become extremely aggressive, and therefore the disposal of their nests must be handled with extreme care.
Most often, you will find hornets nests attached to trees, bushes or the sides of buildings. Shaped like an inverted tear drop, the nests can contain thousands of hornets. Ideally, removal should be handled by a professional.
But if you want to do it yourself, protect yourself by wearing a full wasp suit, which is sealed at the wrists, ankles and collar. It's recommended that you dispose of the suit after you've used it to treat the nest and dispose of it, due to the toxicity of the chemicals used to destroy the nest.
Nests can be treated with a freeze-type, aerosol insecticide or dust formulation, such as Sevin or Ficam, which are sprayed directly into the nest opening. Hornet nests have a single opening, usually toward the bottom, where the wasps enter and exit. Do not break the paper envelope of the nest during treatment or you risk scattering the irritated hornets in all directions.
Wait at least a day before removing the nest after treatment to ensure that all of the hornets are dead.
You might need to repeat the pest control treatment if you continue to see hornets. Once you feel the hornets have been destroyed, slip a plastic garbage bag over the intact nest and clip it at the point of attachment.
