Ladybug Pest Control

They're Cute but Ladybugs Can Be Pests, Too
Unlike many insect pests, ladybugs aren't looking for food when they enter your home. They're just looking for a warm place to hibernate for the winter. Outside they might make their home in a pile of leaves or under some roof shingles. But inside, they'll cluster together in the corners of attics, porches or the frames of doors or windows. On warm days, they might fly around the house looking for a way out.
Pest control of ladybugs centers around keeping them out of the house in the first place: seal cracks around windows, doors and siding. Install insect screening over attic and exhaust vents -- and repair or replace any damaged door and window screens.
Ladybugs can become a problem when disturbed. They do bite, and while they're not normally aggressive toward people, ladybugs can "nibble" hard enough to break the skin and draw blood. However they don't possess a stinger and they don't carry any diseases.
They also leave behind a yellow-orange fluid -- a defense mechanism called "reflex bleeding" when disturbed. The fluid stinks and it can stain furnishings, so be careful not to crush a ladybug on anything surface that might stain. Instead, get out the vacuum cleaner and suck them up. There are interior pesticide treatments available. But do not use any kind of aerosol fogger or "bug bomb." These treatments don't work on ladybugs -- and instead of keeping pests away, you can end up attracting more insects into the house to feast on the bugs you killed.
